Greenfield City Manager Todd Wilkin and members of Greenfield Village Council announced May 10 that the South Central Ohio Industrial Park has been authenticated, or certified, by the State of Ohio. This is big news, as only about 20 industrial parks in the State of Ohio have successfully gone through the rigorous authentication process.
Wilkin said Greenfield and the Highland County Commissioners have been working for several years to attain this certification.
“We are extremely excited to proclaim the news,” Wilkin said.
The South Central Ohio Industrial Park is the second industrial park to be authenticated in Highland County (Leesburg’s industrial park is also certified). Greenfield’s park is approximately 180 acres and has had environmental studies performed and comes with a utilities surplus.
“There are many ideas to help in the development of our industrial park and many directions that need to be explored. We are looking for the most cost efficient way to develop our park while attracting good business, and ultimately more jobs for our community,” Wilkin said.
The city manager and council members thanked the Highland County Board of Commissioners and commission clerk Nicole Oberrecht and local groups like the Greenfield Foundation for their efforts along the way to get the park to its now-certified status, an accomplishment that local officials hope will attract new industry to the area.
Wilkin said that according to information provided by the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG), the park is “one of two in Highland County, one of five in the region, and one of 20 in the state” to be certified.
Leesburg’s industrial park was certified last year. It belongs to Highland County, while the Greenfield park belongs to the village of Greenfield.
Greenfield’s park is a total of approximately 180 acres, some of which was developed in the past. Two large tracts of land totaling 116 acres were authenticated by SiteOhio and are thus considered ready for development, having undergone a phase one environmental site assessment, archeological review, wetlands determination, geotechnical study and been evaluated for rare or endangered plants and animal species.
Due to potential archeological significance, about 24 acres in the park have not yet been authenticated. However, according to council member Bob Bergstrom, those 24 acres could be put to use as a green space without any further assessments.
The South Central Ohio Industrial Park possesses high-speed fiber optic cable, excess water and sewerage capacity, and many other features.
A site plan, which includes current businesses in the industrial park along with the undeveloped acreage, has been made with renderings of buildings suitable to the available acreage. It will be available soon on Greenfield’s website.
The South Central Ohio Industrial Park is located just 12 miles south of US 35, and 24 miles from I-71. It is within one day’s truck drive to 60% of North American and Canadian populations.
For more information about opportunities at the industrial park, contact City Manager Todd Wilkin at 937-981-3500.

Greenfield companies create a variety of products;
South Central Ohio Industrial Park offers room for newcomers
There are many reasons why businesses choose to locate in Greenfield. In 2015, Corvac Composites opened a facility to manufacture automobile parts, promising to bring 175 new jobs to the community. Greenfield's South Central Ohio Industrial Park presently serves as home to Adient, C-Mold, Greenfield Products, Wooden It Be Nice and American Made Corrugated Packaging. Other manufacturers are located in the community, including Waddell/Ghent Company, Greenfield Research and Advanced Hydraulics. More sites are available for additional development at the nearly 200-acre industrial park.
Products manufactured in Greenfield include automotive components, printed materials, anchors, camping skillets and tent stakes, injected plastic products and more. Greenfield is just one stop sign away from US 35 (12 miles) and 16 miles from the Highland County Airport, which has a lighted 4,500 foot, hard surface runway. State Routes 28, 41 and 753 all pass through Greenfield, and Interstate 71 is just 24 miles away. The Appalachian Highway (US 32) is about 40 miles to the south. Approximate driving times to nearby communities are as follows: 15 minutes to Washington C.H.; 20 minutes to Hillsboro; 25 minutes to Chillicothe; one hour to Columbus or Dayton; 90 minutes to Cincinnati. Greenfield also owns a 29-mile section of railroad from our community to Midland that is operated by the Indiana & Ohio Railway and used by area manufacturers. According to area employers, the Greenfield workforce is industrious, dependable and well-trained. Greenfield is located within a 45-mile radius of one million people, and a potential workforce of a half-million people. Incentives for development Greenfield cooperates fully with the federal and state government and honors any economic incentive programs offered. In addition, we partner with local employers, Highland County, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce and various local organizations seeking to energize and revitalize the local economy. Greenfield Village Council has shown a willingness to negotiate economic incentives for new employers. For more information, contact the city manager. Low cost of living, business friendly environment Greenfield is competitive on many levels, with a low Cost of Living Index reported at 78.6 in March 2012, very affordable local taxes, and the same Middle American values that made our country great. We foster an atmosphere of partnership and collaboration with employers as we seek to grow and maintain our community. Plentiful, high-quality water supply Greenfield has an ample water supply as our aquifer comes from what was once the ancient underground Teays River, which two million years ago rivaled the Nile in length and grandeur. This water has a pleasant taste and is free of bromine, viewed as a contaminant in many industrial processes. A natural filter keeps the cost of treating our water to a minimum, and we have had no confirmed contamination issues in more than 40 years. We maintain 1.9 million gallons of storage, which reduces the likelihood of service interruptions. Greenfield once pumped a million gallons of water per day, but as industrial needs have changed we currently supply about 400,000 gallons a day. Opportunity knocks for businesses needing plenty of good water! Highly rated South Central Ohio Industrial Park (SCOIP) We have an industrial park that can accommodate the needs of industries wishing to build in Greenfield. In 2018 SiteOhio authenticated 115 acres of SCOIP as ready for development. For more information, click HERE.
